The International Workers of the World (IWW) South Sound General Education Union launched a “phone-zap” campaign this morning, after Evergreen State College administration did not meet demands presented at a recent rally.

“Despite over 100 people delivering a letter that called for the school to not hire another cop and to instead employ two full time positions (one in political economy, one in the arts), the administration refuses to hear our demands that remain popular throughout the working class of the college,” the IWW said in a press release.

They encourage “Wobblies and friends” to call Provost Jennifer Drake and President George Bridges between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. PST. “Wobbly” is a term of endearment used to refer to IWW members.

Evergreen State’s Public Relations Manager, Allison Anderson, said the school would respond later in the day. However, as of noon the next day, she had not offered a response.

UPDATE: The Journal received a response from Evergreen spokeswoman Allison Anderson. “Evergreen considers faculty and staff positions in consultation with the Evergreen faculty, the United Faculty of Evergreen, and the Washington Federation of State Employees.  We recognize the Geoduck Student Union as the clearinghouse for student voices on campus,” said Allison. “In the spirit of constructive, good-faith efforts around Evergreen’s future, we encourage members of the campus community to reach out to those groups.”
